Education is the key priority for students at National Church of England Academy, and meeting individual requirements is essential for progress and success. Our curriculum team consider these needs carefully and create an environment that nurtures ability and supports improvement. The curriculum is delivered by a team of highly qualified specialists and all aspects of young people’s educational experiences are enhanced by the academy’s ICT provision.

Broad and balanced curriculum

At National, we provide a curriculum which is broad, balanced, and intellectually fulfilling. Throughout the first three years in the academy, all students follow the national curriculum, providing a foundation to move into further study. Our strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy ensures that students leave with key skills valued by potential employers and educational establishments.

The curriculum prepares students by helping them to understand the world in which they live, giving them the skills to transition into adulthood and contribute to society economically and as citizens. All students are encouraged to progress academically during their time at National.

Assessment and monitoring

Assessment and monitoring plays a key part in the success of every student. At the start of key stages 3, 4 and 5 each student is set challenging targets to work towards. Each term, attainment and progress of students is recorded, with all information monitored by staff and reported to parents. At the end of key stage 4 and 5, external exams are taken to measure each student’s attainment.

Progress

The review of the progress of every student at the National Church of England Academy is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. It is through this review that we can gauge the current progress of each student. Where progress is below expected levels, we will work with students and their parents/carers to take action to ensure this is improved.

During each academic year, for all students, in every subject we will:

  • set an end of key stage and an end of year target
  • review and report the current progress at least three times a year (to include targets to help
    improvement)
  • provide opportunities to meet staff to discuss student progress. The timings of these meetings vary
  • for each year group, and we will publish the dates at the start of each academic year. These are
    known as AMP (Achieving My Potential) evenings.
