Children and Young People are integral to building a fairer and more sustainable world for everyone. Courageous Advocacy equips them with the skills, tools, confidence, and opportunity to speak up and take action on issues of justice. Courageous Advocacy is an integral part of the Church of England Education Office's vision for education.
Community Action Group
In 2025, our community action group have delivered an Easter themed afternoon to the residents of Annesley Lodge care home. The students delivered games of bingo, an Easter themed quiz, and spent time chatting with the residents. In June, some of our year 8 students spent the morning at the Under One Roof food bank. During their visit, they organised the shelves, spent time dating food items that had been donated, and prepared food parcels for members of the public using the food bank.
Hucknall Food Bank
We support the work of the Hucknall Food Bank. Every year, students and staff work together in their tutor groups to collect donations. These donations are brought together in our annual Easter services and delivered to the Hucknall Food Bank.
Period Poverty
One of our previous Head Students, Anya Bywater, worked with our Academy Chaplain to create sanitary product packs that were given out to students as part of a campaign to raise awareness about period poverty. Refills are continually available from all faculty offices, inclusion, the library and student reception.
Make a difference project
Tutor groups in KS3 are challenged to 'make a positive difference' to the world around them. The students identify where they would like to make a difference and why, and then work collaboratively on their mini-project.
Ghana
For several years we been involved with a sustainable project based in rural, northern Ghana. We sponsor 6 students from the King’s School. Education is not free so many children miss out on an education. As a result of our sponsorship these children get a full-time education, a uniform and fresh fruit daily. Due to the generosity of our students and their families, we have been able to support additional initiatives such as equipping a new IT suite, providing a projector and tiling the outside toilets. In recent years members of staff have visited the King’s Village and, on their return, given our whole school community an insight into life in Ghana. Each tutor group works together to raise money to support our sponsored students.

Pop-Up Shop
We open our pop-up second-hand uniform and equipment shop in July each year. We hope this helps to promote sustainable living, and support families at a time when the cost of living is rising. We ask for donations of the following items:
• Branded National C of E Academy uniform (blazers, clip on ties, skirts and trousers)
• Pale blue shirts (long or short sleeves)
• Branded National C of E Academy PE uniform (rugby shirts, jogging bottoms, shorts, polo shirts)
• Shin pads
• GCSE and A Level revision guides (in good condition)
When we open the shop, there is no charge for the uniform, equipment or revision guides. Any voluntary donations go towards supporting the children we sponsor as an academy through the King's Village Ghana.
Social Action in 6th form
All sixth form tutor groups devise, plan and deliver a social action project within an academic year. In these, students are tasked with exploring a local, national or global issue and devising their response to it. Previous examples have included collections for the local food banks for both food and hygiene poverty, fundraising to sponsor critically endangered species and toy collections for children in hospital over the Christmas period.
