Yesterday Year 11 students took part in mock interviews. We welcomed a number of local employers to the academy to conduct one-on-one interviews. These sessions allow students to practise their communication skills, reflect on their strengths, and gain valuable insights into the expectations of prospective employers. We hope students found the experience rewarding. #Aspiration #Respect #Compassion #Humility #Wisdom #Service

Year 10 Food students have worked incredibly hard to produce two European dishes in their two-hour mock practical exam. A wide range of countries were considered including France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Greece. Students have demonstrated skills from deshelling raw prawns, filleting fish and making their own pasta and bread products. The final results were outstanding. #achievement #respect #humility #wisdom #service

What a flying start our year 7/8 girls' football team have had! 5-0 up at half time against Tupton Hall School in Derbyshire in the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) campaign; with a penalty saved by National and continuing to show their class won the game 7-0. Well done to Shakiyah for scoring her first hat trick for the school team! Good luck in the next round of the competition! #achievement #respect #humilty

Y10 mock interviews On Tuesday 5th July our year 10 students took part in mock interviews as part of our careers programme. In preparation for this, students wrote CVs and letters of application in personal development lessons. We were extremely fortunate to be able to welcome employers from our local community into our academy to interview the students. All students received feedback at the end of the process to help them prepare for future interviews. It was a really successful day and the feedback from both employers and students was extremely positive. #wisdom #service #humility #achievement #respect

A thought-provoking year 11 celebration service at St Mary Magdalene Church on Wednesday last week with contributions from Mr Brailsford, Headteacher, our Chaplain, Keziah Ritchie and Reverend Chantry. We enjoyed some live acoustic music from John-Joe and Lerato and had the opportunity to reflect on what it means to be part of the 'National family'. We were joined by special guest, Joe Worrall, Nottingham Forest player and Ben Marshall, Governor. Joe reflected back on his time at National and when asked what advice he would give to the year 11 students, he said that he has always surrounded himself with good people. Those you can trust and rely on. He also referred to the recent Forest promotion and how having faith in his team mates and believing in each other's abilities went a long way to achieving this dream. #humility #service #wisdom #respect #achievement #charity

We are flying the national flag of the United Kingdom to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen becoming the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. Students will be celebrating in school with a special 3 day 'Best of British' menu in Archie's including toad in the hole and chippy Friday. #service #humility

Our Year 7 & 8 girls are South Notts Football Champions! On Monday, the team played The Becket School at West Bridgford Football Club, and ended the season with a trophy! It was a tight game and the defence had to work very hard but the girls' determined mindset and resilience resulted in a 3-2 win. A big thank you to Ava's dad for running the line. Congratulations to the girls, the coaches, and parents who have supported the team this year. #achievement

National Church of England Academy has a long and rich history, having started from humble beginnings in the church porch at St Mary Magdalene's Church on Hucknall marketplace in 1788. Our school has survived, thrived and grown through almost 250 years. As an institution we have navigated running as a boys' boarding academy in the 1820's, teachers leaving the profession to enlist in WW1, the Spanish Flu pandemic, digging trenches in the playing field during WW2, and the Queen's coronation in 1953. During this time the school would have seen numerous government Acts and initiatives both successful and unsuccessful, including such controversial practices such as corporal punishment by caning. In our archives we have our 'Punishment Book' which logs punishment by strokes of the cane between September 1949 and September 1978. In state schools, corporal punishment was outlawed in 1986. This is a fascinating historical record of a very contentious tradition, in a society which was very different to the world in which we live in today. #humility

Year 8 Religious Studies students last term completed a unit of work considering the question 'Where is God?'. They looked at arguments both for and against the existence of God and created a piece of artwork to share their own ideas. Mr Brailsford (Headteacher) Mrs Richie (Chaplain) and Mrs Halfpenny (Head of Faculty - Social Sciences) judged the artwork and awarded prizes to the top three. #achievement #wisdom

Our year 8 girls' football team competed in the County Cup final this week against Outwood Academy Portland. There are 6 year 7 girls who play for the year 8 team at a level higher than their age group. The game was really tight and National unfortunately just lost concentration in the last few minutes to concede the second goal, making Outwood Portland the winners. The girls should be so proud of their achievement with excellent play by all players. #achievement #humility

Our Archie's Destination Days have continued to be a hit with students, most recently tasting the best of Jamaican flavours. Students enjoyed beef patties served with spicy wedges, rice and peas, Jamaican style chicken wraps, and Caribbean coconut cake. #respect #service

We currently have some exciting vacancies within our support services team. Work alongside us as a Learning Support Assistant, a Clerk to Governors or a Midday Supervisor. All these vacancies are term-time only. The Learning Support Assistant will support the behaviour, learning and achievements of individuals and groups of students within the classroom and dedicated inclusion base. A Clerk to Governors is required to provide a varied high quality clerking service to our Local Governing Body. Our new Midday Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision of children on the school premises throughout the midday break. Our year 11 girls played the Nottinghamshire Schools under-16 final last week against Arnold Hill Spencer Academy, and came away with a silver medal. The girls were strong with 90% possession in the second half and exemplary performances from Charlotte, Kadie-Rose and Jacee-Jem. Although Arnold Hill were scoring against us and they had an exceptional goalkeeper, the girls were determined to keep their heads up and played an outstanding game of football. This was the last match for our year 11 girls representing National Church of England Academy before they move on to post-16 study and we could not be prouder of their achievements together as a team. There are still three cup final matches to play for our key stage 3 girls' teams - Year 7 and 8 on 9th May, Year 8 and 9 final on 12th May, and Year 7 final 17th May. We wish everyone involved the best of luck. #achievement #respect #humility

In 'Big Questions Week' - students completed activities with our academy chaplain Keziah and the extended chaplaincy team on the theme of resilience. Also Keziah launched Renew Space - a quiet shared space where it is okay to not be okay. Renew Space will run on Tuesdays after school in the Whiting Room. This is an opportunity for students to drop into a quiet reflective space if they feel they need a little extra support through conversation and/or prayer. #wisdom #respect #humility #service

On World Book Day we celebrated the 25th birthdays of both Harry Potter and World Book Day in 2022. We know that reading improves literacy skills which are central to students' educational achievement, it encourages lifelong learning, and is beneficial to mental health and wellbeing. Staff dressed as their favourite fictional characters to share their love of reading across the academy. #wisdom

To round off Big Questions Week 2022, we had a visit from @thelilyjoproject speaking out (and singing!) about our theme of 'resilience'. This project aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health through music, digital resources, and community engagement. Students participated in a workshop about how to be proactive about maintaining good mental health to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams. #service #humility

In Thought for the Day, the activity was to create a prayer chain (or a chain of peace) for the Ukraine/ Russia conflict. Students really engaged well with this and have written insightful prayers which they then formed into a chain. As each student joins their prayer to their tutor's chain they add their prayer to thousands and thousands of people praying across the globe for this heart-breaking crisis. #respect #humility
