Nestled within the corridors of the National Church of England Academy lies a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation – the Art, Design, and Technology department. Here, students are not just taught skills and knowledge; they are encouraged to explore, create, and push the boundaries of their imagination.
One of the highlights of our department's calendar this year has been the eagerly anticipated Christmas Bake-off Competition. At Christmas students came together to showcase their culinary prowess and spread festive cheer through the art of baking. From intricately decorated cupcakes to tiered cakes, the creativity and skill on display didn’t fail to impress. This competition not only fosters a sense of community but also provides a platform for students to express themselves through a different medium.
Beyond the kitchen, our department offers a myriad of opportunities for students to hone their skills and unleash their creativity. For instance, the Key Stage 3 Laser Cutting Club provided students with the chance to delve into the world of digital fabrication. Under the guidance of our dedicated teachers, students develop proficiency in laser cutting techniques while working on exciting projects, such as designing their own colour changing bedside lights. This hands-on experience not only equips them with valuable technical skills but also nurtures their problem-solving abilities and fosters a sense of pride in their individual creations.
Moreover, our afterschool GCSE coursework clubs cater to students with a passion for Art, Product Design, Engineering, and Photography. These clubs serve as invaluable support systems, offering students the guidance and resources they need to excel in their coursework. Whether it's refining their drawing techniques, perfecting their design prototypes, or mastering the intricacies of DSLR photography, our clubs provide a nurturing environment for students to flourish and reach their full potential.
In addition to these extracurricular activities, our department is committed to providing enriching educational experiences beyond the classroom. Recently, our 6th form students embarked on an external trip to ITP Aero, where they gained insights into the fascinating world of aerospace engineering. This hands-on experience not only deepened their understanding of the subject but also broadened their horizons and inspired them to pursue careers in STEM-related fields.
At the heart of our department lies a dedication to nurturing creativity, fostering innovation, and empowering students to realise their artistic and technological potential. Through a rich tapestry of activities, clubs, and experiences, we strive to instil in our students a lifelong passion for the arts, design, and technology, preparing them to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
Join us on this journey of exploration, creativity, and discovery at the National Church of England Academy – where every student has the opportunity to shine and make their mark on the world.
